Background Information
Research for all my
genealogical research started in October of 1969 when I accompanied Doc, my
dad, and uncle Jesse on a trip to Tennessee from Alabama to see where Doc was
born, and to visit a couple of his cousins.
Being born in Colorado ,
to very poor and sickly parents caused me not to know anything about my parent’s
family or to be able to make trips to visit them, nor did they talk about their
kin back in Alabama .
I probably knew more about the genealogy of the stray dog at the neighbor’s
house than I did of my own.
Now it is 2010 and I am wrapping up my effort and
attempting to make known what I have learned about my ancestors. I hope to
complete three different documents, Doc’s ancestors, Bennie’s line, and that of
my mother Lois Bertha Kent.
Since I started my research
before the internet most of my information was found in public libraries, state
archives, court houses, and leads to other researchers in genealogy
publications.
The libraries of most larger cities had micro film copies of the US
census. My job as Rocky Mountain Regional Manager for SCI Systems of
Huntsville, AL allowed me to use the Huntsville
library on nights and weekends when I was there on business. And when I had to
go to Utah to
contact customers I would use the LDS Library at nights while there. The LDS
library is a huge facility at SLC that houses more genealogical information
than anywhere else in the world.
